Welcome! We will be learning Video Production in Adobe Premiere Pro the first semester.
Do not be alarmed if you signed up for Commercial Art 2 or 3. As long as you've had Photoshop, you will be able to take this class.

1 - Intro to Video Editing
Complete a worksheet to learn industry terms and Adobe Premiere's workspace

1) Watch this video HERE to learn the layout of Adobe Premiere and what the panels' functions are. Slides version for review is HERE (if needed).

2) Read the slides for Video Ed

3) Do the worksheet HERE . You may use the slides and videos for answers.

2 - Titan Aerial Commercial
Import clips and make transitions

Design a 15 second commercial for a video drone company called Titan Aerial.
You will use 5 clips with transitions, a logo, and subtitles on each clip.

If you don't have a google account, you must create one to upload your video to.

Syllabus - 1st Semester

Commercial Art 4 - 8718040


Students will learn how to edit video using Adobe Premiere Pro.


Week 1 & 2:

Worksheet - Digital Imaging Terms

Read slides and complete a worksheet to show understanding of digital art terms.


Week 3:

Titan Aerial Commercial

Create a 15 second commercial while learning the workspace in Adobe Premiere, how to make subtitles, and transitions.


Week 4:

Community Promo A

Sign up for Brain Buffet course and take the pre-assessment test. Students will start making a commercial to promote tourism in a city. They will work through modules 1.01-1.08 in Brain Buffet (import media, preferences, editing workflow)


Week 5:

Community Promo B

Students will continue making a commercial to promote tourism in a city. They will work through modules 1.09-1.15 in Brain Buffet (clip sequences, rough cuts, unlinking and adding audio, timeline, margins)


Week 6:

Community Promo C

Students will continue making a commercial to promote tourism in a city. They will work through modules 1.16-1.19 in Brain Buffet (Titles, Transitions, Exporting, Challenge Project, Post Assessment quiz)


Week 7:

Mountain Bike Interview A

Students start a new project making an interview video about mountain biking. They will do a pre-assessment quiz and start modules 2.01-2.06 in Brain Buffet (Scratch Discs, Media Browser, Multi-cam Edits, Project Panel, Adjust Audio)


Week 8:

Mountain Bike Interview B

Students continue making an interview video about mountain biking. They will work through modules, 2.07-2.15 in Brain Buffet (Timeline Markers, Lift and Extract Edits, Adding B-roll, L and J cuts, Speed Changes, Freeze Frame, Rendering, Typography Terms, Lower Third, Animated titles)


Week 9:

Mountain Bike Interview C

Students continue making an interview video about mountain biking. They will work through modules, 2.16-2.22 in Brain Buffet (Color Correction, Essential Audio Panel, Adjustment layers, Frame Export, Media Encoder, Challenge Project, Post Assessment quiz)


Week 10:

DirtFish Commercial A

Students start a new project making a promo for video car racing. They will do a pre-assessment quiz and start modules 3.01-3.06 in Brain Buffet (Acquire music, import and link files, import photoshop files, clip mark and syncing, 3 point editing)


Week 11:

DirtFish Commercial B

Students continue their project making a promo for video car racing. They will work through modules, 3.07 - 3.14 in Brain Buffet (Green Screen, Track Management, Animation effect, Opacity Mask, Blend Modes, Nesting, Track Mattes, Auto Ducking Music)


Week 12:

DirtFish Commercial C

Students continue their project making a promo for video car racing. They will work through modules, 3.15 - 3.19 in Brain Buffet (Green Screen, Track Management, Animation effect, Opacity Mask, Blend Modes, Nesting, Track Mattes, Auto Ducking Music, Post Assessment quiz)


Week 13:

Porsche Project A

Students start a new project making a promo for Porsche cars. They will do a pre-assessment quiz and start modules 4.01-4.06 in Brain Buffet (project intro, Import Photoshop layers, custom sequences, Bin Management, Clip Markers, Track Matte w/ Image)


Week 14:

Porsche Project B

Students continue making a promo for Porsche cars. They will work through modules 4.07-4.11 in Brain Buffet (Adjustment Layers, Effect Controls Fade, Subtitles and start a challenge project)


Week 15:

Porsche Project C

Students continue making a promo for Porsche cars. They will work through modules 4.11-4.131 in Brain Buffet (finish challenge project and watch the sample videos “Spaceship” and “Project Breakdown”, and they will take a post assessment quiz)


Week 16:

Working in The Industry

Students will do the 5th module in Brain Buffet where they will watch videos about the video production industry and learn about copyrights, visual film techniques, shot types, and take a pre and post assessment quiz)


Week 17:

Tool & Interface Review

Students will do the 6th module in Brain Buffet where they will watch videos to review the course. They will take pre-and post-assessment quizzes.


Week 18:

Study for Cert Test

GMETRIX practice exams to prepare for certification in January.


This covers the 1st semester. The 2nd semester will likely be a similar set-up but switching to another software, Adobe After Effects.

*There are only 9 State Standards for this course (about making thumbnail sketches, etc) and we will cover those after this first semester is complete. The first semester is all exam objectives for Adobe Premiere Certification.
